Safe and Cost Effective Liquid Level Control with Magnetic Level Gauges and Magnetostrictive Transmitters

Magnetic Level Gauges

Magnetic level gauges are a safe, easy, and dependable way to measure fluid levels inside a tank. These visual indicators are a non-invasive, low-maintenance, cost-effective alternative to sight glasses. Because the fluid never comes into contact with the indicating glass, they are exceptionally safe for flammable, toxic, and corrosive liquids. There is no risk of leakage if the glass ever breaks.

Magnetic Level Gauges (MLGs) are widely used in the monitoring and process control of liquid level and interface in various industries such as petroleum, chemical, power, paper, metallurgy, and water treatment. They are suitable for continuous process level measurement that is real-time, precise, safe, and dependable.

The magnetic level gauge, bolted to the process vessel, provides real-time level and interface measurement based on magnetic coupling and buoyancy principles. IA float is inside the level gauge chamber with a 360° magnetic ring. An indicator with a vacuum glass tube containing a bi-colored two-face magnetic bargraph connects to the outside of the chamber. The float moves in response to the level change, causing the magnetic bargraph to turn and change color. Additionally, a mating magnetostrictive transmitter provides a continuous analog or digital output.

The precise liquid level is displayed or "read." The indicator uses hermetically sealed glass tube technology to show the process level clearly. It eliminates, among other things, the common problems associated with glass gauges, such as vapor, condensation, and liquid leakage.

Most Common Applications for Magnetic Level Gauges:

  • Boiler: Steam drum liquid level
  • Power generation: Auxiliary machinery liquid level (HP reheater, LP reheater, de-aerator, condenser and heating network heater etc), chemical water
  • Coal Chemical: Methanol, dimethyl ether, synthesis ammonia/urea, MTO, CTL, SNG
  • Silicon industry: Organic silicon, polycrystalline silicon
  • Petroleum and petrochemical: Oil and gas, ethylene, trimerization and etc.
  • Fine Chemicals: Methane oxide, epoxy ethane, aniline, PTMEG, BDO, carbon fiber, POM, acetic acid, styrene, rubber, crude benzol refining
  • Others: Metallurgy, paper-making, water treatment, biological, pharmaceutical, food and beverage etc.

Winter is Hard On Process Piping, Tanks, and Valves. Protect Them with BriskHeat.

Freeze Protection

We don't want to say we told you so, but .... we told you so. Winter weather is here, and the need to freeze protect vital process control equipment is evident. Frozen pipes, valves, and vessels caused by sub-zero temperatures and harsh winds cause spills, downtime, and unexpected costs. Additionally, frozen equipment presents the danger of shutting down factory production. It's not too late. You still have time to heat trace and freeze protect your critical equipment for the rest of this winter season.

Traditional heat tracing design schemes combine with innovative products, installation, control, and monitoring technologies in BriskHeat industrial heating products. BriskHeat industrial heating products are ideal for maintaining the proper temperature of valves, pumps, joints, crosses, elbows, flanges, pipes, and tees. Heat tracing cable (constant wattage and self-regulating), tote heaters, insulated heating blankets, immersion heaters, and thermostats are all available from BriskHeat. BriskHeat industrial heating products are long-lasting, reliable, and effective.

With unpredictable weather conditions ahead, you must protect your piping, tanks, and valves. BriskHeat has a solution for every situation. To learn more, contact Alliance Technical Sales at 630-321-9646 or visit the Alliance website at https://alliancets.com.

On-line, Continuous TOC Measurement For Pure Water Systems - Real-time Measurement For Full Visibility of TOC Excursions

TOC Measurement For Pure Water Systems

The Mettler Toledo 6000TOCi is a continuous measurement Total Organic Carbon sensor with ISM capabilities designed to measure the concentration of organic substances in pure and ultra-pure water applications.

Monitoring Total Organic Carbon is critical for determining and controlling organics pollution in pure and ultrapure waters. This technology is relied upon in pharmaceuticals, microelectronics, and power generation sectors.

The 6000TOCi sensor is a continuous-flowing, continuous-measurement instrument that detects any TOC change, regardless of duration. The continuous design also allows rapid detection, recognizing differences 60 seconds after the sample enters the sensor. The sensor provides continuous, real-time measurements in pure and ultrapure waters by utilizing advanced UV oxidation technology with swift response times.

The 6000TOCi sensor measures conductivity before and after oxidation of organic material with ultraviolet light to provide continuous, real-time TOC determination.

The 6000TOCi's flexibility allows it to be installed anywhere on a water system, with the option of displaying results at the point of measurement or in a more convenient location for operators.

The METTLER TOLEDO Thornton 6000TOCi Total Organic Carbon sensor has a response time of less than one minute. It provides continuous monitoring, a significant advantage over batch measurement systems that take six minutes or longer to give only a snapshot of water quality.

The M800 Transmitter is a multiparameter, multi-channel instrument with a large, color touchscreen display that displays measurement and setup information for the 6000TOCi sensor. The M800 can control and monitor the operation of up to four 6000TOCi sensors. The 6000TOCi sensor and M800 transmitter form a TOC measurement system with design flexibility for full integration into water systems when used together. The separate components allow for close positioning of the sensor to the sample point for the quickest response while also allowing integration of the transmitter into the local control system.

Preserve CO₂ When Purging Beer Tanks With the Mettler Toledo InTap Portable Dissolved Oxygen Analyzer

A craft brewer uses CO₂ to purge oxygen from the headspace in bright beer tanks to reduce dissolved oxygen levels in final products. They used a time-based method to determine when to determine purge completion, but this is an imprecise method that can overuse expensive CO₂. METTLER TOLEDO provided the InTap portable oxygen analyzer to the craft brewer. InTap measures dissolved oxygen levels down to 2 ppb using a highly precise optical sensor, making it suitable for a wide range of brewery applications ranging from purging to monitoring filling lines.

This video discusses how a craft brewer reduced CO2 use with a convenient, portable oxygen meter.

It addresses critical issues concerning beer production, such as:

  • Complete tank purge determination.
  • Why use a portable meter to measure dissolved oxygen?
  • How to Increase Your Product Quality Confidence
